Ukraine has sent its only military transport aircraft, the An-70, to Poland. The aircraft has been part of the country’s Armed Forces since 2015.
The plane, identified by tail number “02 Blue,” was tracked entering Polish airspace on September 15, according to Flightradar24 records. During its flight over Ukrainian territory, the transponder remained off for security reasons and was only activated upon crossing the border.
The An-70 is considered a rare asset of the Ukrainian fleet and underwent a modernization process conducted by the manufacturer Antonov. After years in storage, it returned to flight in 2021 in preparation for Ukraine’s 30th independence anniversary celebrations.
Since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion, information about Ukraine’s transport aviation has been kept confidential.
This is not the first time Ukrainian transport aircraft have gone to Poland. Last October, the prototype of the An-178-100R also landed in the country at Ignacy Jan Paderewski International Airport in Bydgoszcz.
